The Opportunity: 

Humble Bundle is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Business Developer to lead our Book vertical's business in comics, graphic novels, and science-fiction/fantasy (SFF). The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of these genres and strong relationships with publishers, authors, and other key players in the industry. This role is responsible for identifying, negotiating, and securing new partnerships to create compelling bundles and promotions that delight our customers, drive revenue, and support charity.

This role follows a standard full-time schedule, with no expectation to work weekends, holidays, or unusual hours. From time to time, domestic and international travel may be required for meetings with publishers and partners, as well as for attending conventions and industry events. This role primarily involves computer-based work with extended periods of sitting or standing and regular use of hands and vision for tasks such as typing. Occasional travel is required, which could include lifting and carrying materials, and navigating airports, hotels, and other venues. For applicants residing in or near Los Angeles or New York, there may be a requirement to work in-office, while applicants in other locations around the world will work remotely, with strong consideration given to those based in the Pacific time zone. 

Key Responsibilities: 

• Partnership Management: Identify, prospect, and establish new business relationships with publishers and content creators in the comics, graphic novels, and science-fiction/fantasy spaces.
• Negotiation & Deal-Making: Structure and negotiate deals for Humble Bundles, Store promotions, and other key initiatives, ensuring mutually beneficial terms for both Humble Bundle and our partners.
• Strategy & Planning: Develop and execute a long-term business development strategy for the assigned genres, staying ahead of market trends and identifying new opportunities for growth.
• Market Analysis: Keep a pulse on the comics, graphic novel, and SFF markets, including key players, emerging trends, and competitor activities, to inform your strategy.
• Collaboration: Work closely with the Humble Bundle Operations, Marketing, and Creative teams to ensure successful execution of all book promotions.
• Reporting: Track and analyze key performance metrics for all partnerships and promotions, providing regular reports to management and internal stakeholders.
• Relationship Building: Act as the primary point of contact for all partners in your per-view, fostering strong, long-lasting relationships based on trust and mutual success.
• Content Creation: Collaborate with internal teams and publishers to curate and select compelling content for bundles and sales, leveraging your genre expertise to create enticing offerings.

Job Qualifications: 

• Experience: 2+ years of business development, licensing, or similar experience, with a proven track record of closing deals in the publishing or media industry.
• Industry Knowledge: Deep passion for and expertise in the comics, graphic novel, and science-fiction/fantasy genres. You should be able to speak fluently about key publishers, creators, and series.
• Network: An existing network of contacts within the publishing, comic book, and SFF industries is a significant plus.
  
• Communication: Excellent negotiation, communication, and presentation skills. You can articulate complex ideas clearly and persuasively, both verbally and in writing.
• Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to use data to inform decisions and track performance.
  
• Self-Starter: A proactive and results-oriented mindset. You are comfortable working independently and taking ownership of your projects from start to finish.
• Team Player: Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and build consensus.
